SKIPA

How I chose the name Skipa.

September 1993, I moved to Ben Lomond in Santa Cruz County to attend UCSC as a psychology student. I suppose my adventure into "UCSC Geekdom" began when I acquired the habit of staying up most of the night to socialize with nocturnal communities on icb and ICQ.

horseI found myself attending geek hosted parties, late night hot tub gatherings, and 3AM food or donut runs. My spare hours were committed to socializing with geeks and raising world champion bred appaloosa horses.

In 1994, I purchased an a nicely bred appaloosa mare named Social Acclaim. She was double bred SkipperW top and bottom. My admiration for the stallion SkipperW and his tremendous influence on appaloosa and quarter horse lineage led me to try to adopt the login Skipper or SkipperW.

However, the login Skipper was being used on icb and I didn't want my login to be confused with someone else.

I considered using names of SkipperW offspring, like Skipperette, SkippersKing, Skipadoo, Skipador, and Skipalator. Those names all seemed long and I wanted something that could be typed quickly. Skipa Star and Skipster appealed to me, and I settled on the login Skipa.

FYI: Skipa Star, 1973 stallion by Skipper's Lad and out of Pat's Dusty Star. A superior Halter horse and the 1975 world Champion 2 Year Old Stallion, sired 14 AQHA Championships, 61 Superiors in halter and performance, and 7 world champions.
